This Is the Turkey – By Abby Levine- This is a cute book. It has a great little sing songy pattern that the students enjoy. It tells about the turkey that gets dropped, but how it it the best Thanksgiving they have ever had.

Oh, What a Thanksgiving – By Steven Kroll- This book is great. A little boy is very disappointed with how boring his Thanksgiving is going to be. He keeps pretending that he is back with the Pilgrims at the first Thanksgiving. It is a great book that looks at Thanksgiving today and the first Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Is… – By Louise orden- This book is great. It compares how Thanksgiving today and the first Thanksgiving are really a lot alike. The students really liked being able to make connections with what the Native Americans did and what they do today.

It’s Thanksgiving – By Jack Prelutsky- This book isa cute little book with poems all about Thanksgiving. The students loved the rhyming, sing songy pattern it had.

I’m Special, I’m Me! – By Ann Meek- This book is great. It really helps students understand that is okay to be different as long as they like themselves. The little boy wants to play with his friends at recess, but they never let him be what he wants to be. His mom always is quick to find something good about what he did get to be at recess. The last day finds the little boy confident about what he is going to be in the underwater play day. He grows confident in himself.

We are best friends – 34

We are best friends – By Aliki- We were able to make some great connections as a class with this book. Two boys are friends and one moves away. The one boy thinks there is no one to play with, share with, or do anything with since his best friend is gone. The friend that moved wrote him a letter that told of a new friend he made a this new school. That makes the other boy feel like it is okay for him to make friends with the new freckled face boy that moved in to his class. Great book.

The Night Before Thanksgiving – By Natasha Wing- This book is great. It has a brother and sister getting their house ready for family to come eat Thanksgiving dinner. What I did was read both stories. We did a double bubble map to compare and contrast them. My class had so much fun.

T’was the Night Before Thanksgiving – By Dav Pilkey- This book is great. It has a classroom of students going on a field trip to a farm. One student asks what the axe is for. After the farmer tells the students, they all crying. The teacher and farmer run to the well to get some water to make the students feel better. The students all get back on the bus. As the farmer waves at the bus, he notices all his turkeys are missing.

Some Dog – By Mary Casanova- George likes his comfortable life with his people. One day a new yippy dogs shows up. George does not like all the attention his owners are giving the new dog. When it starts to storm the new dog breaks things and gets sent out of the house. The owners fell bad, and then they ask George to track down the dog who is lost and alone outside.

Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny Tiny Lie – By Laura Rankin – This is a great book to help students understand about telling the truth and not taking things that don’t belong to them. Ruthis likes teeny tiny things. She finds something on the playground that she wants to keep as her own.
