Number the Stars – 35

Number the Stars – Lois Lowry – It is a great book. It goes along with our study in social studies about the Holocaust. We will read it together in class this year. This book is about Annemarie Johansen and her Jewish friend Ellen Rosen. The German soldiers are occupying their hometown in Copenhagan, Denmark. Ellen’s family is in danger, so she comes to stay with Annemarie. Mrs. Johansen takes the girls to visit her brother out in the country. The family has a funeral with some strange guest. Annamarie must make a quick trip to the sea to help her uncle. This book has great chapter breaks. It really keeps a class on the edge of their seats wanting to read more.

  1. Dear Mrs.Brown, I loved this book because it was interesting. It makes you feel like you’re in the story. There’s a lesson to learn in every book in this case the lesson here is friends stick together through thick and thin times just like Annmarie and Ellen did in this story. That is what a true friend does. That is the lesson of this story. Truly an old student, Robert Dewald

it was a good book, and I think if I read it again I would understand it more. I think the cover looks scary.
